REMOVING PAINTINGS BY ARTIST STEYE VERMUNICH
During the last week before the Christmas holidays in 2025, we were asked by the municipality of Heist-op-den-Berg to remove Steye Vermunich's paintings on canvas from the St. Guibertus Church in Itegem. Steye Vermunich is a 25-year-old street artist who was given the opportunity last summer to showcase his painting on canvas in the church of Itegem. These paintings hung from the triforium and continued halfway down the altar.
Because the art group, to which the artist belongs, was unable to find height worker in time to remove Steye Vermunich's work, the church community decided to call on us to remove the canvas from the church.
It was an interesting assignment.
When dealing with works of art, you have to work carefully and delicately. With large canvases, there is a risk that they will start to tear if they are removed incorrectly. This requires a lot of planning in advance and during the execution itself.
After three hours of working carefully with the artwork, we were able to safely lower it using ropes without any problems. The artist himself was also satisfied with how we were able to carefully and safely remove the work.
